Terms and privacy
Written to be read. These cover the hosted Slipdock service at app.slipdock.us and this website, both run by David Adams ("we", "us"). Questions go to [email protected].
Terms of use
The short version
- Your content is yours, and you keep every right to it.
- Do not upload anything illegal or harmful, and do not try to break in.
- We can remove content or close accounts at any time, without giving a reason.
- Slipdock is free and comes with no guarantees. Keep your own backups.
- We are not liable for anything that goes wrong, as far as the law allows.
-
Using Slipdock
By using the hosted service or this website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them.
If you run Slipdock on your own server, these terms do not apply to that server. The software is licensed under the GNU AGPL-3.0, which has its own terms, including its own disclaimer of warranty and liability.
-
Your content is yours
You own everything you put into Slipdock: boards, cards, comments, wiki pages, files and anything else. You keep all your rights to it. We claim none.
You give us only the permission we need to run the service: to store your content, process it (for example, to make it searchable), and show it to you and to the people you choose to share it with. That permission ends when your content is deleted.
-
What you must not upload
Do not put anything into Slipdock that:
- is illegal, or that you do not have the right to share;
- infringes anyone else's copyright, trade marks, privacy or other rights;
- contains malware or anything designed to cause harm;
- harasses, threatens or abuses anyone;
- is pornographic;
- is offensive, racist, sexist, or otherwise distressing;
- sexualises children, in any form.
You are responsible for what you upload.
-
We can remove anything
We can remove any content, or close any account, at any time, without notice and without giving a reason.
-
Do not hack it
Do not try to get into accounts, boards or data that are not yours. Do not probe, scan or attack the service, overload it, get around its limits, or interfere with anyone else's use of it.
If you want to test Slipdock's security, run your own copy, which the licence lets you do. If you find a vulnerability, please tell us as described in the security policy. We are grateful for that.
-
No guarantees
Slipdock is provided free, "as is" and "as available", with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. That includes any promise that it will be fit for a particular purpose, always available, free of errors, or that your data will never be lost.
Keep your own copies of anything that matters. Account › Import & export in the app gives you everything you have as a zip. We may change, limit, suspend or stop the service, or change the free card limit, at any time.
-
No liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable to you for any loss or damage of any kind, whether direct, indirect or consequential, arising from your use of Slipdock or your inability to use it. That includes lost data, lost profits, lost business and lost time.
Where the law does not let us exclude liability entirely, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. For the free service, that is nothing.
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
-
Claims about your content
If someone makes a claim against us because of content you uploaded or the way you used Slipdock, you are responsible for it, and for our reasonable costs of dealing with it.
-
Ending
You can stop using Slipdock whenever you like, and ask us to delete your account and data, as described in the privacy policy below. We can also close your account at any time, as clause 04 says.
-
Changes and law
We may update these terms. When we do, the date at the top of this page changes, and using Slipdock after that means you accept the new version. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction.
Privacy policy
The short version
- We never share your data with anyone without your explicit instruction, apart from the few services Slipdock needs in order to work, which are listed below.
- One of those is OpenRouter. Your content is sent to it whenever you use Slipdock, even if you never touch the AI features.
- We will delete everything on request.
- No advertising, no tracking, and we never sell anything.
-
What we collect
- Your email address and display name. We use your email to sign you in (Slipdock has no passwords, so we email you a one-time link) and to send notifications you set up.
- What you put in. Boards, cards, comments, status updates, wiki pages, attachments, automations and settings.
- Your OpenRouter key, if you add one. It is kept in a file on the server, outside the database.
- Technical details. A cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. Your IP address, which we use to limit sign-in attempts and record against API tokens so you can see where each was last used. Ordinary server logs.
That is all. There are no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, in the app or on this website.
-
Who else sees it
We never share your data with anyone without your explicit instruction, other than the following, which Slipdock cannot run without:
- OpenRouter. Whenever you use Slipdock, the text of your cards, comments, status updates and wiki pages is sent to OpenRouter to be turned into search vectors (embeddings). This is what makes search by meaning work, and it happens whether or not you use the AI features. If you also add your own key and use the AI features (chat, Ask, automations written in English, and edit mode), the content involved is sent through OpenRouter on your key. OpenRouter passes requests on to the model provider that serves them, and both handle that data under their own policies.
- Cloudflare. All traffic to the app and to this website passes through Cloudflare, which provides the network connection and protects the service from attack.
- Our email provider, which delivers sign-in links and the notifications you ask for.
- The people you share with. When you share a board, card, page or view, the people you share it with can see it. That is your instruction.
We will also disclose data if the law requires us to. Beyond that, we never sell your data, never use it for advertising, and never use your content to train AI models.
-
When we look at your boards
We do not, as a rule. If you ask for help and we need to see what you see, an admin can be given temporary read-only access to your boards. Each time, the reason is recorded, the access expires after a few hours, and it is listed on your Account page, so you can always see when it happened and why.
-
Deleting your data
Email [email protected] from the address you sign in with and ask us to delete your account. We will delete it, and everything that belongs to it, within 30 days. That includes your boards, cards, pages, files, search vectors, API tokens and OpenRouter key.
Two things are worth knowing first:
- Boards you have shared. If other people are working on a board you own, we normally hand it to one of them rather than delete their work. If you want it deleted anyway, say so and we will.
- Things you wrote on other people's boards. Status updates and wiki edits you made on boards you do not own stay there, so their history makes sense, but your name is removed from them.
Copies held in backups are overwritten as the backups rotate. If you want a copy of your data before it goes, use Account › Import & export in the app.
-
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop processing it. Email [email protected]. If you are in the UK and unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
-
If you host it yourself
A Slipdock server you run yourself sends us nothing. Whoever runs that server is responsible for the data on it, and for any OpenRouter key it uses.
-
Changes
If we change this policy, the date at the top of the page changes. If a change makes a real difference to how we handle your data, we will tell you by email before it takes effect.
